It is with immense pleasure and great vision that I welcome you to the newly established Centre for Green Energy and Nanotechnology (C-GENT) at Himachal Pradesh University (HPU), Shimla. This Centre is not just a building or a lab; it is a strategic platform created to drive advanced green energy solutions by integrating innovative nanotechnology aspects and beyond.

The 21st century demands revolutionary approaches to how we harness, store, and use energy. We recognize that at the heart of these solutions lies nanotechnology, a cross-cutting domain essential for developing cleaner, smarter, and more efficient technologies. Our establishment aligns perfectly with the National Education Policy (NEP 2020) and the strategic goal of the Himachal Pradesh Government to transform the state into a Green Energy State by 2027.

C-GENT is poised to become a leading hub of innovation, education, and collaboration in this critical interdisciplinary field. Our mission is to foster interdisciplinary collaboration, uniting scientists, engineers, policymakers, and industry to drive impactful innovation.

We are committed to addressing real-world challenges specific to our region, such as developing battery solutions suitable for extremely cold climates for Electric Vehicles (EVs) and promoting green mobility for tourism in destinations like Shimla and Manali. Our research focus includes solar energy, agrivoltaics, advanced biofuels, hydrogen energy, and next-generation energy storage techniques.

To achieve this, the Centre will initiate postgraduate programs (M.Tech, M.Sc., Ph.D.) and offer specialized, skill-based certification and diploma courses. We will establish a world-class laboratory facility and an incubation hub to nurture entrepreneurial ventures and startups.
